What we do

The Excelerator is an online platform.

Connecting youths in different countries, helping to link different cultures and viewpoints, and resulting in collaboration and personal development. The program is facilitated by our extensively trained and qualified mentors who come from various walks of life and represent many different professional industries, including finance, technology, and education.

To partake in the program, students apply by writing a short essay on what the community is for them. What problem they want to take on in the community and how they will contribute to the program. 

Each student designs a project from their passion and vision that addresses a social problem. Each participant will be coached by a mentor to guide them with their vision.

Community

An environment where they learn to operate within a group. They learn what it takes to be a team. They develop their ability to communicate effectively by participating in a project that is predicated upon making an impact in other people’s lives. They learn to share themselves confidently, think for themselves. They begin the process of taking ownership in all areas of their lives.

Possibility

The opportunity to view the world as opportunities, to be a “yes”, to live, to dare, and be audacious. Very often, we develop limiting beliefs that leave us constrained by experiences of the past. The youths see life from a positive perspective. They are in action in their projects and in their lives. There were times they would have been stopped; now, they simply make the necessary adjustments. They are self-expressed, free, and having fun.

Integrity

The power of our Word. Our word builds character. Character is destiny. Integrity is a lifetime practice. The youths develop a level of consciousness that leaves them with an understanding that without integrity nothing works. They make the effort to be on time, to do complete work, and to encourage their team members. They learn that without communication there is no relationship, without respect there is no love and without trust, there is no team.

Performance

Performance happens on the court. The youths distinguish for themselves that results happen when you are in action. Actions that include: planning, strategizing, supporting, and being 100% accountable. They are also trained about the traps of reasons, explanations, and justifications. They are grounded in looking at results as feedback, not failure, what works or does not work, and to look to see where integrity is missing. As a result, the youths are left empowered and not resigned. We also introduce promise, doing complete work, and structure to accomplish the goals.

Empathy

The ability to understand and share the feeling of another, affinity, and sympathy. Recognizing that other people’s experiences have value too. When we see something happen to someone else, in our community and our family, naturally we give a hand. The youth are inspired by who they are and the difference they make when they focus outward and embrace others. They learn that great leaders are not afraid to serve and be served by the people they come into contact with.

Resilience

The capacity to recover quickly from difficulties—resilience. They are trained in possibility, positive thinking, sharing what they are going through, asking for support, and staying connected with support such as family, team, and their community. The youth develop an approach to life that they are not alone, no matter what. If something happens to them, they are worthy and deserving to make requests for support and not internalize negative thoughts. To differentiate what happens versus their interpretations that something is wrong with them.

The focus of the training is one of a leader’s quest.

A rich journey where participants experience: self-discovery, character building, and personal growth. The youth are trained in fostering community and are provided with an opportunity to express themselves as leaders and to pursue their passion. Committed to change within themselves, their families, communities and the world.

Ambassador Mary Elizabeth Flores Flake

Mary Elizabeth Flores has served as Ambassador of Honduras to the United Nations since 2010. She was the first female ambassador appointed from Honduras. She served as First Vice President of the Honduran Congress from 2006-to 2010. She is the mother of Carlos Eduardo and Sofia Isabel.

Patrick Struebi

Patrick Struebi is a social entrepreneur, humanitarian, thought leader, and founder and Executive Chairman of the Fairtrasa Group, a pioneering social enterprise that lifts marginalized small-scale farmers out of poverty. Fairtrasa is one of the largest organic and fairtrade exporters from Latin America with a vertically integrated business structure, impacting over 60,000 direct beneficiaries.

For his work with Fairtrasa, Patrick has been selected an Ashoka Fellow, an Endeavor high-impact Entrepreneur, a Yale World Fellow, and a Gabelli Fellow. Furthermore, he has been named four times Social Entrepreneur of the Year by the Schwab Foundation (2014), the abc* Foundation (2012), Univision (2012), and Visionaris (2009). 

Patrick is also an adjunct professor at Fordham University, where he teaches at the Gabelli School of Business. In 2014, the World Economic Forum named Patrick a New Champion, and he is also a member of the Clinton Global Initiative. He writes a column at HuffPost and gives talks around the world on social innovation and related issues.

John T. Meyers

John is an international NGO consultant and resource development specialist. Active internationally for much of his career, John has most recently held dual appointments as Executive Director, Swisscontact North America, and Managing Director – North America for Swisscontact, a Swiss NGO working in 35 countries. John served as President, Board of Directors, Impact Capital Forum, formerly Microfinance Club of New York, a member of the Board of Directors, Community Foundation for St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and in the Rain Barrel Communications Associate Network. He was appointed twice to the United States delegation to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Human Resource Development Working Group; served as Executive Director of Lawyers Without Borders; and was a founding editor of the Journal of Studies in International Education. He received his B.A. in International Relations from The American University of Paris; MLS from Rutgers University School of Communication & Information; and M.A. in History from Columbia University.
